WORK WITH ME

EDITORIAL SERVICES

I’m obsessed with stories—whether I’m writing them, reading/watching them, or simply analyzing how they work. I see storytelling as a puzzle, and I love figuring out what a story is trying to be and how to get it there.

And as an author myself, I know what it’s like to feel stuck or like the story isn’t quite there. I wrote and rewrote my debut novel, The Haunting of Lavender House, countless times, studying craft and finding the right balance between horror and romance. That novel went on to secure literary representation in two months and sold at auction to a Big Five publisher (HarperCollins).

Now I want to take what I’ve learned and help you.

My strengths as an editor include blending genres, crafting atmosphere, and brainstorming ways to elevate your story. I particularly love plotting (I’ll be your spreadsheet sidekick, if you want).

As for my feedback style, I am honest but always kind. I’ll give you actionable feedback to improve your story but also be your ultimate cheerleader.

Genres I work with: I specialize in Horror, Gothic, Romance, Women’s Fiction, and Fantasy (including genre blends!), but I’m open to other genres as well if you think we’d be a good fit.

“Natalie was phenomenal in seeing things in my manuscript that I couldn't. She gave me great insights and was able to pinpoint things that I could actively do to improve my story without imposing and did so with grace and kindness. She gave me so much praise as well as constructive feedback that was extremely helpful! I would highly recommend her to anyone who knows something isn't working but is just too close to their material to see it. Thank you, Natalie!”

“I highly recommend Natalie’s editing services. I’d been stuck in place for quite some time with my current novel. I felt all the pieces were there, but the second and third acts weren’t landing the way I wanted. Natalie reviewed my outline and came back with a thorough, well organized list of thoughtful questions and suggestions to bring out the best of my story. She has a gift for getting to the heart of character motivations and plot dynamics and how to best bring those things forward in the narrative. My outline and draft are cleaner and more powerful thanks to Natalie’s observations. She was professional, prompt, and delivered feedback within our agreed upon timeframe. If you’re considering exploring ways to make your story shine, I suggest connecting with Natalie. She’s great!”

“Plotting is not my strength but I wanted to try an outline before I started another round of revisions to keep myself on track. Natalie reviewed my outline with the keenest eye for the big picture elements of character arc and story structure, while also keeping in mind details like where to increase suspense and romantic tension.

Natalie was very encouraging in pointing out both what was working as well as what could be strengthened. She asked meaningful questions that made me think deeper about my story and really get to the heart of it. Her enthusiasm for the craft of storytelling shines through in her work.

After revising my outline with Natalie’s comments in mind, I feel so much more confident in moving forward with my story. I can’t recommend her enough!”

“Natalie has read every single one of my books with enthusiasm and always offers feedback I find myself chewing on for weeks. She has a knack for spotting inconsistencies and weak plot points that others skim over, while delivering feedback in an exceptionally kind way.”

“Natalie's thorough feedback was incredibly helpful. She has a way of pulling out the elements of the story and repeating them back to you to help you better understand your story and characters. Her astute observations and excellently posed questions helped me to understand how to better strengthen my work and character's motivations.

Not only did she provide an overview of comments of the piece, but she also provided in-line comments and notes for the pages, query letter and synopsis. Her comments ranged from pointing out overarching themes, complimenting specific passages and explaining why work to posing questions about plot holes or descriptions, and suggestions for better word usage or ways to tighten the pose.

I would highly recommend Natalie for anyone looking to strengthen their work and/or pitch package.”
